Klamath River Open All Year.

Use only barbless hooks from Iron Gate Dam to the ocean.

You must have a Salmon / steelhead report card before you get your line wet in the Klamath system.

Your cost - $5.80. You cannot fish the Klamath River without it ! You can purchase them at The Fish Hook Restaurant near the Blue Herron R.V. Park.

The flow is holding steady between 1,020 and 1050 cfs.

The past week of salmon fishing on the Klamath river has been fair. We have been landing Salmon while bouncing roe. The mouth of the river has had trouble staying open, not letting fresh ocean salmon up the river. They are stacked up waiting to get in so it could bust loose anytime. Stay tuned!!!

A worm and a corkie is always the go to rig for steelhead and trout. This set up produces fish all year. Be patient, you’ll catch a bunch of the little fish but you’ll also catch the big ones. I believe in bigger presentation for bigger fish. I recommend using scents.

Pulling plugs can also be very productive. Rebel Crawdads, Brads Little Wigglers and Hot Shots work great.

The fly fishermen are throwing a dark buggy nymph or stone. Wooley Buggers, Leeches, Prince Nymphs or anything with a bead head are being productive. You can’t go wrong using dark, buggy flies. Tip, use two bead head flies under an indicator.

Right now, the Klamath River is warm and the flows are a little low. No need to worry, just fish the faster water. You see, the faster water has the oxygen content the fish need right now. Avoid the frog water, (slow moving water). Concentrate on the pocket water and the seams. The stretch of water behind and above the Fish Hook Restaurant is a great place to do some great all around fishing.
